Puffins in Iceland

These are the puffins I found at the top of the cliffs while visiting Reynisfjara Beach, with the unique black sand beach and the Eyjafjallajokull Volcano.  There were hundreds of them and it was such a great surprise to see them flying back and forth from the cliffs to the ocean.

Later we visited the Dyrholacy Peninsula, specifically to look for puffins.  I was able to get within 10 feet of these guys!  So exciting.

I learned that puffins can live to be more than 30 years old and that they mate for life.  They also use the same breeding nest year after year.

I have a young friend who is in "love" with otters. I brought her back a stuffed puffin, hoping to broaden her horizons.  I think she likes it!

I'll be blogging more about this trip.  I went to Iceland with Sights and Souls Travels.  They specialize in tours and vacations for women.  I can't say enough good about them; it was a fabulous trip and I recommend them.

Go take more photos,
